In June 2021, the Design Georgia Gallery unveiled a vibrant collection of contemporary works that seamlessly bridged art and functionality. Visitors were greeted by an array of furniture, ceramics, paintings, and home accessories—each piece reflecting the innovative spirit of Georgian design while honoring the country’s rich artistic heritage.

Among the participating creators were DesignBureau, Anuka Tavartkiladze, Levan Lominashvili, Funduki, Irina Salmina, Saini Studio, Ivy Design, DesignScolio, Ceramic Studio 1300, White Studio, Nato Eristavi, Ia Liparteliani, Maka Jishkariani, and Anzelika Rieck. Their collective contributions spanned everything from striking furniture concepts to delicate ceramics and expressive artworks.

Bold geometric motifs stood out in several furniture pieces, such as a sleek armchair and matching coffee table wrapped in a monochromatic grid pattern and finished with a vivid red cushion. This playful yet practical approach demonstrated how modern graphics can coexist with everyday comfort. Nearby, a whimsical two-seater bench featuring a stylized couple underscored how functional seating can also serve as an artistic focal point.

Ceramic art showcased a broad spectrum of styles—from sculptural vases adorned in multi-toned patchwork to finely etched plates and tiles. Some works emphasized fluid, organic forms, while others featured intricate, symmetrical patterns—highlighting the range of techniques employed by Georgian ceramicists. Delicate glassware etched with subtle motifs complemented these ceramics, reflecting meticulous attention to detail.

Throughout the gallery, paintings and decorative objects added further depth. Lively canvases explored motifs like pomegranates and abstract geometry, lending vibrant color and texture to the space. Smaller items, such as decorative tiles and plates displayed on a mantel, illustrated how traditional ornamentation can evolve into fresh, modern statements.

Several standout pieces fused imaginative design with practicality. A child-friendly desk combined streamlined plywood construction with bright storage straps, demonstrating a thoughtful approach to both function and playfulness. Sculptural chairs with wing-like elements, meanwhile, showcased the creative potential of furniture that challenges conventional shapes and silhouettes.

Collectively, these works underscored the core philosophy shared by the exhibiting designers: a harmonious blend of artistry, innovation, and usability. Whether minimalist or richly ornamented, each creation resonated with a sense of cultural identity and modern sensibility. The June 2021 exhibition at the Design Georgia Gallery ultimately provided an inspiring snapshot of Georgia’s evolving design landscape, highlighting the country’s capacity to produce pieces that captivate the eye, engage the imagination, and enrich daily life.
